Belong – Common Era

Now nearly five years since drone duo Belong released the gloriously hiss-ridden monolith “October Language,” the boys have returned with a surprising new palette of sounds, even featuring vocals (!) and percussion (!!) throughout most of the album. “Common Era” stands as a considerable departure from the syrupy, barely-there melodies collected in their previous work, but at the same time the band’s new leanings seem both logical and natural; unabashed and uninhibited. Recommended for fans of (earlier) Growing, Tim Hecker, Lovesliescrushing, white noise, 1991, etc.
